70s Spyder Bike
#1
Found my "old" spyder bike in the basement and was going to give it to my nephew. It's a single speed bike with coaster brake and front squeeze brake on the handlebar.
When I pedal it, it just free spins and doesn't move the rear wheel. When the coaster brake is applied, it free spins also in reverse and no brake pressure is applied. What can I do to repair this. I do have some mechanical abilities. Haven't taken it apart yet.
Can it be repaired by 'tightening" something or do I have to "buy" a part for a 30yr old bike? Bike in excellent condition, don't want just trash it because of this problem. HELP!

It sounds like the "freewheel" has seized, causing lack of forward drive, and may free-up with some WD40 etc.
You may be able to strip it but on the other hand could require a new one?
It also sounds like the brake has also seized.
You should be able to strip the brake, clean and free it.

Ride hard or ride home alone!

Coaster brake hubs work a little different than a standard freewheel. You'll need to open it up and see what is going on. I would assume something is either broken or missing inside. You should be able to get parts for it though you might need to search around a little depending on the hub manufacturer and model.
