Ultegra brake on 105 shifter
#1
My girlfriend's bike has 105 shift levers and Tiagra brakes, and she says the brakes aren't strong enough to her liking. She got used to the hydraulic disc brakes on her mtb Big Grin Anyway, are Ultegra calipers compatible with 105 shift levers?

***EDIT***

Never mind, answered my own question: NO!!

Hey Dave. My girl likes a coaster brake and you should see her calves!

If she is accustomed to disc brakes on a MTB, no way is she ever going to get that feel on any rim brake. It simply isn't needed on a road bike.

To answer your question... yes, you can mix/match 105 and Ultegra brakes. And DA and Sora and...
Frankly - the step from Tiagra to Ultegra at the rim, only reduces weight and pivot resistance. You'll never make it respond like a disc. Ever.
Let's try, though. Just to say we did. Smile

1 - Pads are adjusted for height, toe, ect properly? If so, see 2.

2 - Softer pads will give greater friction but have a much shorter life.

I got some Tiagra calipers and they were rubbish.
You could see them physically bend.
Changed to 105's and a definite improvement.

P.S I am using them with Campag' Veloce levers.

Dave. I meant to add that if you need to watch which Ultegra that you get if you do this. The new BR-6700 uses SLR which is found on the 6700 and Dura Ace 7900 levers.

That was close. I almost bought the BR-6700 with my 105 shifters. So no go at all to math these up. I guess the BR-6600 will work will they?
