Red Loctite will work just as well on clean threads, as long as you don't hit it with a torch.

I have never come across cups that can't be fitted with a bit of gentle work with a hammer and a wooden block, taper the entry first and grease.

Yeh way to go. Nice tool.

I made a similar tool for compressing motorcycle shock springs, using two 4X4 plates with U cut out of them and four rods.

BTW for those that do not have a welder use two nuts and lock them together. That's how engine studs can be pulled.
