Cable stretcher?
Evening folks

Put simply, cable stretchers - do I need this tool or is it a luxury I can manage just as well without?

http://www.parktool.com/product/cable-stretcher-bt-2

Many thanks Smile

To put it simply i'd say a must if you do alot of bike work. If not then not a must. There are other ones too like these....

Hope that helps

RE: Cable stretcher?
Thanks guys for your valued feedback Wink

I have 3 bikes which need cables changing amongst other things and hope to have more in the future so I guess I might need one, hadn't seen the Icetoolz or Pedro's...is there much difference in quality in comparison to the Park Tools cable stretcher?

Thanks again guys Smile

RE: Cable stretcher?
three bikes hardly qualifies as a lot. If you were doing three cable swaps an hour, all day long, five days a week, that would qualify as enough for the tool.

i will be looking to restore other bikes over time too, would you say i only really need this tool if i work as a bicycle mechanic but not as a general hobbyist?

thanks

This is the best you can find, better than Park Tool, and cheaper!

......

I currently have five bikes/projects; and have not needed a tool like that to properly adjust the cables. The issues I have had re-cabling our tandem this past weekend would not have been solved any faster with a tool like the. I replaced the brakes, brake levers, both front and rear shifters, and all of the related cables.

If you want one, you should get it; but you definitely do not need it to perform good work.
