Shimano 9-speed rsx shifters
Hi
Does anybody know how to replace the shifter cables in RSX 9-speed shifters?? I think I must have read every thread related to this, watched every video, and looked through a load of tech docs but can't find an answer. The left and right hand shifters look slightly different in the way that the cable runs through but they are both as difficult as each other. It looks as though I'll have to dismantle them but most sites warn against this. Surely there must be simpler way? Thanks in advance.

I can't find the right tech docs, but if you know the part number (look under the rubber hood) you might be able to find it here: http://techdocs.shimano.com/techdocs/index.jsp

On most brifters, if you shift to let the cable all the way out (high gear in back, low gear in front) there should be a small hole just opposite where the gear cable comes out of the lever. You feed the cable in through that hole with the head going in last.

Thanks very much that's helped a lot: I managed to get the cable out of the LH shifter using a lot of oil to get it working again. No joy with the RH though....I think its because its just not shifting to a gear that'll let me remove the cable from the hole. The P/N is ST-A410. Thanks again.

Those shifters tend to get gummed up and start to solidify if not used for a period of time. Cleaning with a suitable solvent like Tri-flow will usually free things up. Oil is probably not the best choice for the job.
