I can only use the highest 5 gears on my 8spd rear cog

thanks for your help, everyone! i fixed the problem. i took apart my shift levers and cleaned and greased them, and everything works bananas now. this is still kind of inexplicable to me, since the looked nice and clean and greasy inside, but who cares. it works now!

i ahve been trying to sort out the gear changes on my grown up daughters bike the last couple of days. same problem would only work the 4 or 5 highest gears, also the front changer would only work the small and medium cog but not the big one. read your post, i had cleaned the changers as best i could. read your post and decided to have another go. i put release oil into the rear changer, squirted it in, after a few minutes i tried them out, clicked an extra gear to start with and then another go, it ran up and down fine on rear changer, great then squirted some into front changer, tried the front changer, first go the same , second go moved further than before, and then worked ok. never realised these quick fire changers could be so fussy, and i could not see anything in them causing the problem..
