Brifters for old Deore XT 7 speed dérailleur
#1
I've got an old high end Giant mountain bike I'm wanting to convert to a gravel bike, mainly changing the MTB bars to CX/road bars with integrated brake levers/shifters. Any recommendations for some road shifters/levers that would work with the Deore XT 7 speed / triple front derailleurs and cantilever brakes? Don't want to spend a lot, so replacing lots of other components isn't an option.

Thanks for any help you have.

Your only option is low end for a 7 speed, new anyways
Shimano Tourney ST-A070 3 x 7

Please note that you may have to change the FD to a new road triple - the Shimano A073 is a good candidate; and inexpensive. Try your existing FD first.

Thanks for the advice gents. Re the Tourneys, they look to be in my price range and good enough for retrofitting my old steel frame Giant. A couple follow ups:
- Re the FD, I'm considering not even using it and just leaving the big ring on, that's how I ride it most the time now here in the Nebraska flatlands. But thanks for the heads up.
- The bike has old Deore XT cantilever brakes, which work great. Do you know if the Tourney levers will work with these? Concerned about having enough pull length, and haven't been able to find an answer looking at Shimanos tech info.

Thanks, Phil

The pull should be fine, they may have a different "feel" though.
