Carburetor cleaner should work find to clean the chain... just be sure to apply some chain oil afterwards.

Another option and maybe more environmentally friendly is a citrus based degreaser. I personally use a citrus based degreaser and a Park Tools chain cleaner. The combo works okay for me and I feel a bit better about the environment
