Just by numbers sold, probably cross bike and racing bikes are the top sellers. MTB also sell well. This probably varies a lot by what area you are in. The cross bikes or similar "urban" bikes are probably the fastest growing group. There has been a big influx of models that are simplified down some and made more practical for commuting and shopping. They will sometimes have internal geared hubs, chain guards, better rack/fender mounts, etc. Dutch style urban bikes are very stylish right now, though I don't see many of them on the streets.
The sad fact is that the vast majority of bikes are still sold to people using them purely as recreation. But commuting and other "practical" bike riders are increasing. As long as they're riding, I guess we're going in the right direction.
In Russia/Ukraine, are you starting to see cargo type bikes like Bakefiets, long johns, Xtracycle, etc. I'm just starting to see these appear in Los Angeles.
