Replacing Brake cable Length
#1
My Giant Rincon, was stolen. I recovered it, but the front brake was missing. I just bought a new Brake, but no cable.

In buying a new cable and housing, what length would I buy?

Cable housings usually come in custom lengths which you can get cut from your local bike shop. There are some tips on replacing them in this video: http://bikeride.com/replace-cable-housings/

Hope that helps!

Hey Alex,

How can you post at 10:00PM today when I’m in the UK at 21:25 as we speak, replying to your post...? Unless, of course, you presently are elsewhere (i.e. not Vancouver)…?
Hey I've realised, the clock's on CET!

Hey Marc,

Not sure how the time difference works for you. I have been known to post in the wee hours (Pacific Time) sometimes Smile

hey, i just bought brake/housing cable. they came together at my local bike shop only for $4 and it was universal (length will fit, but just need to adjust by cutting the cable)

I usually go to the LBS with the bike, they estimate the correct length, cut the housing, (roughly) clean the cut and sometimes throw in the ferrules for free. Be sure to use good cable cutters (or special hosing cutters) and tidy up the cut with a file (to make it flat) and an awl (to open the housing again).
