Removing Disc Brake Rotor
#1
Was aligning the calipers on the girlfriend's mountain bike tonight, and noticed that Shimano and Trek apparently don't want to make it easy to replace a rotor. I have never seen this before; the rotor is riveted to the hub, and it appears you need one of those splined freewheel remover type tools to take it off. It's a 2009 Trek Fuel EX 5 with Juicy 5 brakes. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

This is an interesting little bit of information! Really glad this was posted as it shows how somethings (tools) can used for others. Let us know how it turns out please.
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

I guess this is nice. I do have a personal history of stripping the threads in my disc brake hubs, which is why I finally bought a torque wrench. I figured the cost of the torque wrench would make itself up in all the new hubs/wheelsets I wouldn't have to buy Big Grin

Guess I'm going to get really good at truing rotors since the centerlocks are more expensive than the Iso 6-bolts.

Thanks for the info!

That's one thing you're gonna have to get used to unfortunately.

Aligning Avids = pain in the bum, but worth it! Juicy 5s with 8" rotors make reasonable budget Downhill brakes

Centrelock Rotors = pain in the bum standard with annoyingly expensive rotors, though you can now buy an adapter for it to convert your hub into the proper 6-bolt standard (which allows you to use the cool Hope Floating Rotors!)
