Sram Indexing
#1
Howdy folks

I am fixing a bike which has SRAM X7 shifters, and a X7 rear mech, but I cant get the thing to index. It is also a SRAM cassette, I have tried a new cable, and the mech appears to be straight, and the hanger also.

Can anyone suggest any reason for my dilemma? It is indexed ok in the low 3 gears, then goes out the higher you go. Its almost like the index ratio is wrong, but I cant think why that would be. My next option is a change of hanger, or mech, but thought id see if anyone has any bright ideas first.

Derailleur hanger not aligned, misplaced spacers in the cassette?? Cable kinks anywhere, worn out housing? Didi you run and attach the derailleur cable at the right place? Cable run is a bit different from Shimano...

As Bob noted, be sure that you routed the cable to the correct side of the rear drlr pinch bolt. I'm so used to Shimano that I often have to stop myself when working on SRAM stuff. If routed wrong, it will cause the exact problem that you're describing.

Hi

Yes, Its an older X7 mech, its run to the inside of the mech, theres a groove on either side to accept the cable, so it is in the right slot. Im wondering if it might just be a tired derrallieur, but will check the allignment first.
