Vintage japanese road bike, worth?
#1
Selling my fathers old vintage japanese/asian bike. I believe he got it in the late 80's or early 90's. Not too familiar with vintage bikes. Can anyone give me a an estimate on what its worth? Thanks!

Welcome!

Never seen or heard of the brand before. Looks to be of mid to late 80s vintage; you are probably correct on your "guessestimate" (1990 at the latest with original components?). If parts are original (large ring looks barely used!) they date from 1987 and a little later; early "105" derailleur, pedals, and brake levers (first year model 1050 series, introduced in '87 model bikes; I have them on an original '87 Nishiki, very good parts!). Bike appears to be in very good condition aesthetically, but value is also determined on everything functioning well too. Due to decent groupset Shimano 600 "Tri-color"/"105"; it should be worth in the $200 plus range (max approx $400) with everything functioning and good tires; given a quality tubing frame and manufacture. Your frame is of larger size so that can make it harder based on demand for a frame in the 60cm -62cm size range. Without knowing more about the scarcity of, and demand for this bike my estimates are a shot in the dark. This may be a fairly desirable frame from a small company; I do not know!
Take care,
Jesper

I've seen photos of Semas carbon road bike (late 00's) made in China. But other than that it's an unknown brand to me. Bike is in a very good condition, I have to agree on that Smile
