Advice on a bike for a new cyclist - Triban RC120 or Trek Dual Sport 2
#1
Hi everyone,

I was hoping I could ask for some advice. I am looking at getting a new bike for commuting , not that far, but I will hopefully ride more recreationally. I am very much a beginner cyclist, and am torn between the Decathlon Triban RC120: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/rc-120-disc-road-bike-blue-microshift/_/R-p-308064?mc=8554265
and the Trek Dual Sport 2: https://www.trekbikes.com/gb/en_GB/bikes/hybrid-bikes/dual-sport-bikes/dual-sport/dual-sport-2/p/32889/

Obviously, they are very different bikes, and I know I need to decide how much on/off road cycling I want to do recreationally, but if that was a wash, what would you suggest? the Triban is about £100 cheaper which isn't something I can entirely ignore, but I would have to order it online so there is less accountability if there is an issue. I was also looking at the specialised Sirrus x2, but they apparently have chain issues.

Thanks very much!

I personally like GT bikes a lot.

I would recommend a GT Transeo for your needs.

If you wanted to try something sassy though, check out a 29" BMX bike like GT Street Performer or Black Ops SpecOp-29.

Depend on riding purpose I think. If you are more for city commute, I think Trek is better.

I'd go with Trek. It's more versatile which is especially handy for a beginner. Regarding road bikes, I have a stance that you have to invest more $ to truly enjoy one. Those cheap road bikes ... are usually cheap, uncomfortable for longer rides, etc.

Another vote for Trek.
Can you please specify the chain issue with Specialized Sirrus? Just curious
